Poplar Hawk Moth (Laothoe populi)

Distribution: This West-Eurasian species ranges from Western Europe to Siberia, including Ukraine.

Bionomics: Poplar Hawk Moths are found in mesophilic forests, floodplains, and shrubs. They are active from May to August, mainly at night, resting during the day on tree trunks, undergrowth, or structures. Females lay eggs on plant leaves, and larval development takes 5 to 12 days. Caterpillars feed primarily on poplar, aspen, and willow leaves, pupating in the soil.

Abundance and Conservation: Poplar Hawk Moths are common in Ukraine and don’t require special conservation measures.
