Lime hawkmoth

Mimas tiliae (Linnaeus, 1758)

Distribution: Found widely across Western Eurasia, including Ukraine.

Bionomics: Lime Hawk Moths thrive in deciduous and mixed forests, ecotones, and gardens. Mostly univoltine, they fly in May and June, with some regions having two generations. They are nocturnal and rest during the day on trees or leaves. Females lay up to 300 eggs on tall, sun-exposed trees like linden and elm. Larvae feed on linden and elm leaves. Pupation occurs in the soil.

Abundance and Conservation: Common throughout Ukraine, with no specific conservation needs.
