Spurge hawkmoth

Hyles euphorbiae (Linnaeus, 1758) 

Distribution: Widespread in Western Palearctic regions, including Ukraine.

Bionomics: This xero-mesophilic meadow-steppe species inhabits open xerothermic biotopes. Bivoltine, with adults present in May–June and August–September. Active at dusk and night, feeding on flower nectar. Caterpillars feed on various milkweed species. Pupation takes place in the soil.

Abundance and Conservation: Common throughout Ukraine with stable populations, requiring no special conservation efforts.
