Striped hawkmoth

Hyles livornica (Esper, 1780)

Distribution: Widespread in Mediterranean regions, including southern Europe and Ukraine.

Bionomics: Xerothermic species found in dry and rocky habitats. Bivoltine, with adults present from May to June and August to September. Active at night, feeding on flower nectar. Caterpillars feed on various plants, including bindweeds and Convolvulus. Pupation takes place in the soil.

Abundance and Conservation: Common in suitable habitats in Ukraine, with no special conservation measures required.
